Misadventures in Phlebotomy

Our pediatrician recommends that toddlers be screened for anemia because kids that young don't tend to show symptoms.  So I scheduled Joshua's appointment for today since I have the day off work.  We went once before, and they weren't able to find the vein, so they told us to reschedule and to have him drink a lot of water before the appointment.  So we did that, but they still struggled.  He did really well and wasn't crying even after he got stabbed by the needle, but again they couldn't find the vein, as they continued to dig around inside his arm, he couldn't take it anymore and started crying.  They then gave up and went to his other arm, which made everything worse, but they finally got a vein in that arm and were able to draw the blood.  He was crying pretty hard at that point, but I kept hugging him tightly through the whole thing.  Here we are after it was over.  He bounced back quickly though and was his normal self by the time we walked out the door.
